high-tech fibers for bicycle lovers
No more scratches, no more rattling – simply beautiful and secure.
we make the (cycling) world brighter and safer – with tex—lock
We are Alexandra Baum and Suse Brand, the developers of tex—lock and cycling enthusiasts and textile designers. We constantly find innovative approaches to rethink products. This is how, back in 2014, we hit upon the idea of a flexible bike lock made from high-tech fibers. In 2019, we worked with raijn to develop innovative, multifunctional rainwear for active outdoor fans.
Our production team has been manufacturing the tex—lock bicycle locks with a keen eye for detail since 2018. The employees who make each of the locks are themselves passionate cyclists. Just as bikes differ, so too do the connections that each member of the team has with cycling and cycling culture.
A former piano factory in the west of Leipzig offers our Production, Development, Administration and Shipping departments plenty of space and creative scope to produce high-quality design products. The ‘Made in Germany’ and ‘Made in Leipzig’ labels are just as much a part of our company DNA as the highest quality and maximum security.
creative entrepreneurship
“It’s curiosity, inventiveness, and determination that drive us on. We blend totally different materials to create innovative products in close cooperation with engineers and industrial partners.”
We love rethinking products in new, original ways. We are Alexandra Baum and Suse Brand, textile and fashion designers, and our team consists of 16 dedicated cycling enthusiasts. The textile-based, highly flexible and paint-friendly bicycle locks from the tex—lock brand are our success story. In 2020, we were even awarded the title of ‘Kultur- und Kreativpiloten Deutschland’ (Cultural and Creative Pilots Germany) for the courage that we show, our dedication, and our constant search for better ways of doing things.
responsible and regional
When selecting our suppliers, we look for short transport routes and high energy and environmental standards. All of our fitters have full employment contracts with us. High-quality components and careful workmanship reduce material waste to almost zero. We also place great importance on the efficient use of packaging materials that are as environmentally friendly as possible. As you can see, we’re on the path to even more sustainability.
high-quality and long-lasting
We set particular store by high-quality components and careful workmanship. We manufacture according to strict German and EU regulations at our Leipzig site. Our internal Quality Management department oversees the entire manufacture of our components and the internal logistics. We adhere to DIN SPEC 60016 for textile-based security systems as the quality standard for our bicycle locks and have been actively involved in its development. Our locks will last for a long time as long as they are well looked after using our care tips. And, with the best will in the world, if something should break, we offer a repair service and replacement locks that are available to buy in our online shop.
production in leipzig
We receive the high-tech fibers from our manufacturers in 240-meter (787’) lengths rolled up onto cable reels. We love the sound of the trucks when they deliver components to our production at the old piano factory in the west of Leipzig. We use the textile ropes with a hardened metal core to produce the tex—lock bicycle locks with lengths of 80, 120 and 160 cm (31½, 47¼, and 63”). We sometimes also produce other lengths on request.
We then attach specially developed metal components to the ends of the textile ropes. A special machine presses these parts together at high pressure. Multiple forces act at this joint during practical use. ART2 certification following extensive tension tests confirms that the connection between the textile rope and metal components is really strong.
